This week we have continued to look at forces, using helicopters, balloon rockets and parachutes to learn about gravity and air resistance.

Exploring Magnets, Catapults and Ramps

Today we were scientists exploring different forces! We were predicting, observing, measuring and experimenting. We also had to work really hard to show Kotahitanga.

Ramp Experiments Exploring Friction and Gravity

Challenge 1- which ramp level makes the car go the furthest?

Challenge 2 - which surface has the most friction?

lino?

concrete?

fake grass?

grass?

Carpet?

Exploring With Magnets - Repel and Attract

Challenge 1 - Can you make the paper clip dance?

Challenge 2 - Can you make a magnet maze

The catapult challenge.

Ricky the rock who couldn't roll...

 Today we read the story:

In the story, Ricky couldn’t roll like all the other rocks because of his shape.

Ricky’s friends added different materials to change his shape. After testing several materials, they found something that worked.

We decided to experiment if we could make a flat rock roll.

First, we made a plan.

Then, we tested our idea.

If it didn't work, we tried again.

And kept trying until we were successful.

Ferrymead

This week we had a visit from Robert and Cindy from Ferrymead. They taught us about toys and games from the past. The tamariki loved these sessions and were so engaged, while also learning about what games children their age would have played with over 100 years ago!

Diwali

Today we were lucky to have one of our families share how they celebrate Diwali. One way they celebrate is by decorating with Rongoli patterns to welcome visitors. Rongoli patternsare bright and colourful and made with coloured powder. We got to have a go at making the rangoli patterns outside Tī Kōuka.

Some children also decided to make their own patterns using chalk.

During maths, we used symmetry and rotational symmetry to create rangoli patterns too.

Waterslide Fun!

Today we celebrated the end of an awesome year with a waterslide! Woohoo!!!
