Kotahitanga in action during play

Look at our cool creation that we made together.

We are sorting the magnets so we can share them evenly to build our creations.

This is our castle. We made it all together.

We are playing a fun game of tag.
This is the doctors' surgery. Two people have fainted. The doctors are making sure they are okay.

Loretta brings her Wearable Art Creations to Huritini

Today, Loretta from the House of Felt returned to Huritini to share the amazing creations that she has entered into the World of Wearable Art Show.

Loretta brought in one of her dresses that was made entirely from milk bottle lids! The children loved seeing it and hearing about how it was made. One lucky child even got to try it on and demonstrate how it could be used as a musical instrument, producing a variety of unique sounds.

This week we are starting to plan our Matariki masks for our own wearable art show in week 10. It was great to be able to see and hear all about what we could do from an 'expert'.

Eric Carle inspired Art

Over the last few weeks, we have been creating our calendar art using painting and collage techniques. We got our inspiration from the author and illustrator Eric Carle.

This week we wrote descriptions of the animals we created. You can read them in the studio.  Here is a sneak peek at a few.

Felting with Loretta from House of Felt!

On Tuesday we were very lucky to have Loretta from House of Felt come in and introduce us to wool and felting! The tamariki loved making their own felt Matariki creations. They designed their pattern on their wool batt, squished water into the wool, rolled out the moisture, stopped on the wool between their towel and let the wool dry overnight.
