Zones of Regulation

Over the last 3 weeks we have been working on a special booklet about our Zones of Regulation. The children have completed activities for each of the 4 zones. Our tamariki are getting very good at expressing themselves (telling us what zone they are in and why) and also knowing what they can do to move back into the green zone if they are in the red, yellow or blue zone.

Here is a quick summary of the Zones -

  • Blue Zone. Sad • Bored • Tired • Sick.
  • Green Zone. Happy • Focused • Calm • Proud.
  • Yellow Zone. Worried • Frustrated • Silly • Excited.
  • Red Zone. Overjoyed/Elated • Panicked • Angry • Terrified.

Now that we have completed these booklets, our tamariki will be bringing them home to share with you.

Planting Seeds

This week we planted seeds to look after and grow over the holidays. After the holidays they can come back to school and we will plant them in our Huritini gardens for the tamariki to enjoy!

Spring Walk

We were out in the sunshine, exploring what changes around the school we can see happening now that it is Spring time! We noticed daffodils, blossoms, leaves on trees, warm sunshine and everything growing.

T14's programmers

For maths this week we have been looking at giving and following instructions by programming Bots and beebots.

First we worked in groups of 3 where we had different roles:

Role 1: The programmer (who writes the program)

Role 2: The Tester (who instructs the Bot and looks for bugs).

Role 3: The Bot (who runs the program).

Once the developer wrote the program, the tester checked to see if the program worked by reading it to the Bot. If there was a bug in the program the tester underlined the mistake and the programmer fixed it.
The challenge was to get the dinosaur to the crab so it could eat it!

We then used what we had learned to program the Beebots.

Waterslide Fun!
