Our Studio Treaty

Over the past few weeks we have completed 'Our Studio Treaty' which focuses on "Learning to Thrive."

As a studio we came up with some rules that we can follow to ensure we are thriving in Tī Kōuka. These all link to our school values too! Some of these are "greet each other," "keep your hands and feet to yourself," "learn from our mistakes," "tidy up after yourself" and "be a good learning buddy."

Our First Kapa Haka

 This Monday we had our first Kapa Haka session with Matua Steve. We loved learning new songs in Te Reo Maori and sign language.

Building whanaungatanga during maths

During maths we made a birthday graph for each T group. We used our maths eyes to see what we noticed and what we wondered.

We also found out what types of books we like to read and where our families come from...

Scooter Safety

 Today some of the children did scooter safety with the Scooter Safety team from the Christchurch City Council. The whole studio also did a scooter safety session with Constable Jess. 

Constable Jess talked about:

Watching out for driveways.

Wear helmets, elbow and knee pads. Wearing sneakers not jandals.

Only scooter in the daytime so we can see and be seen.

When on the footpath, hop off your scooter to walk past other people.  Have your scooter on the left hand side.

Play in Tī Kōuka

 

                                      

This week in Tī Kōuka we have been focusing on building Whanaungatanga. The children have been having fun playing and learning about each other in the studio.

Today we did a scavenger hunt in our studio to help learn where to find things in Tī Kōuka. We also made a new friend! We had to work with a buddy that we didn't know. We practised taking turns with our buddy and making sure we kept together.
